2 Day Tour from Marrakech to Merzouga

A 2-day tour from Marrakech to the Merzouga desert is ideal for those with very limited time in Morocco. It includes a camel trek and a night at a desert camp.

The 2-day desert tour from Marrakech will start with a 7:00 a.m. pick-up from your hotel/riad. This allows time for stops along the way. We will travel to the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi N’Tichka pass. We’ll stop for views and photos of the hidden Berber villages. Next, we continue south to the ksar of Ait Ben Haddou. We will stop for pictures or make a short visit during the summer when the day lasts long enough. The famous Kasbah (declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986) is notable. Famous films shot here include Gladiator, Obelix, and The Mummy. Others are The Jewel of the Nile and Sahara, starring Penélope Cruz.

Our Marrakech to Merzouga 2-day private trip continues. It will see the film studios and the Taourirt kasbah from outside in Ouarzazate. We’ll make quick stops for photos at places with spectacular scenery. You’ll have free time for lunch in Tinejdad or Touroug. Then, we’ll continue to the Merzouga desert to see the spectacular Erg Chebbi dunes.

You’ll do a camel trek for 1 to 1.5 hours to our Berber camp. Before dinner, we’ll watch the sunset from a dune. You can also try sandboarding if you like. Then, take photos and enjoy the views.

Next, we’ll go to the camp. They will welcome you with a cup of mint tea. We’ll have a delicious dinner and listen to traditional Berber drumming. Finally, you’ll sleep in a tent under a beautiful, starry sky.

The next day, after watching the sunrise, you’ll have breakfast and shower at camp. Then, we’ll drive back to Marrakech. We’ll pass through the arid pre-desert area and see acacia trees, typical of this landscape.

On the way to the Draa Valley, we’ll stop to admire the views of the river that names the valley. It’s the longest river in Morocco. Our trip continues toward Ouarzazate, crossing the Anti-Atlas.

We’ll have some free time for lunch in the city. Next, we will travel to Marrakech, arriving in the late afternoon. A transfer will take you to your hotel. Your 2-day Marrakech to Merzouga itinerary ends here.

Day 01 :

Marrakech → High Atlas → Tizi n'Tichka → Merzouga → Erg Chebbi

Your 2-day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga will start with a hotel pickup by your Get Morocco Taxi driver. Then, you will go to the High Atlas Mountains, going through the Tizi N'Tichka pass. We will stop for views and photos of the Berber villages and landscape.

Then we continue to Aït Ben Haddou, a fortified village. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986. Many filmmakers have shot famous films there. They include Game of Thrones, Gladiator, The Jewel of the Nile, and The Mummy.

Our trip continues to Ouarzazate, "The gate of the desert." In Berber, it means "noiseless." Here we'll see the Taourirt kasbah, one of the most spectacular ksars in Morocco. Next, we will visit Rose Valley. It is a beautiful place to see the many palms and kasbahs in the Skoura palm grove. We'll stop for lunch there. We’ll pass by the Dades and Todra valleys, Tinejdad, and Touroug.

Next, we will head to the desert to see the stunning dunes of Merzouga. There, we will take a camel trek through the golden Erg Chebbi desert. We'll stop to watch the incredible sunset over the dunes. If you're interested, you can try sandboarding in the sand. Enjoy the beautiful landscapes until the sun goes down.

Then, continue to Berber Camp Merzouga. Someone will greet you with mint tea. Relax until dinner. Afterward, enjoy traditional Berber drumming around the fire. Admire the starry sky, then sleep in a nomadic tent camp.

Day 02 :

Erg Chebbi → Draa Valley → Agdez → Anti atlas → Ouarzazate → Marrakech

As you're in the desert, wake up early to watch the sunrise. The view from a dune near the camp is the most spectacular you've ever seen.

After these lovely moments, you will have a delicious breakfast and take a shower at the camp. After that, you will ride your camels, or we can 4WD you back to the original meeting location to meet your driver.

And start our journey back to Marrakech. We'll take a different road. You'll see "acacia," a typical tree of this landscape, on the way to the Draa Valley. We'll stop to enjoy the beautiful views of the river that gives the valley its name.

It's Morocco's longest river. Our trip continues to Ouarzazate, via the Anti Atlas. We'll have some free time for lunch in town. In the afternoon, we start our road to Marrakech. We'll drop you at your hotel. Then, our 2-day private tour from Marrakech to Merzouga will end.
