Our 7 days in Morocco start in Casablanca, with a visit to its biggest industrial city. Our schedule includes a visit to the impressive Hassan II Mosque and the Corniche. There are optional stops at other sites. After our visit, we'll set off on a journey toward the capital city of Rabat. After roughly one hour on the road, we'll reach Rabat and start our investigation of its famous sites. We will visit the Royal Palace, Hassan Tower, and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V. Then, we'll explore the Medina to learn its history. Concluding our time in Rabat, we'll proceed onward to the majestic city of Fes. Upon our arrival, we'll check into our hotel for a peaceful overnight stay.
On the second day, we will dedicate it to visiting the enchanting city of Fez. It is the oldest of the four imperial cities of Morocco. It is famous for its religious, intellectual, and cultural significance dating back centuries. After breakfast, our guided tour of the city begins. Visit the University of Al-Qarawiyyin, the first university. Also, see the old city of Fez with its medieval charm. Don't miss the famous madrasas, Al-Attarine and Bou Inania. We will also admire the intricate Nejjarine Fountain. Next, we will visit three sites: the Mausoleum of Moulay Idriss, the Mosque of Al-Qarawiyyin, and the Royal Palace. After this wonderful visit, we will explore the new city of Fez. It promises more wonders and delights. Dinner and overnight at a Riad/Hotel.
After breakfast, we took a scenic journey through the Middle Atlas. We passed through Ifrane, known as the Moroccan Switzerland. Our next stop is Azrou and the Cedar Forest. It is home to the Barbary Macaques, the only ones outside Asia. Then we proceed to Midelt, where we will have our lunch before our drive towards the Erg Chebbi dunes. As we leave Midelt, the sub-Saharan land unfolds. Soon, we reach Merzouga, the "desert door." There, we'll switch from our vehicle to camels for a mesmerizing ride. The day concludes with a wonderful night in the tranquility of the desert. Supper and an overnight stay are in the Erg Chebbi dunes. Local Berbers will play live drums. There will be a bonfire, and you'll see the stars of Merzouga.
On day 4 of our tour, we will rise early to see a stunning sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. After breakfast, we will travel to Boumalen Dades via Erfoud. It is famous for its marble and fossils. Along the way, we pass through charming Berber towns such as Melaab and Tinjdad. We travel to the magical Todgha Gorges. There, towering mountain walls create a breathtaking view. After a delightful lunch in this pleasant area, we proceed with our drive to Boumalen Dades. Upon entry, we check into our lodging. It offers a calm setting for supper and a peaceful night's stay.
On day 5 we will continue our desert tour from Boumalne Dades to Marrakech. We took a beautiful drive through the charming Valley of Roses. It is famous for growing Damask roses for rose water and cosmetics. We can stop at a cooperative to observe how they produce these coveted goods. After that, we cross Ouarzazate. There is an option to visit the famous Atlas Film Studio. Our route takes us to the UNESCO World Heritage site, Kasbah Ait Benhaddou. It is an ancient fortified town. It was a film location for Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, 红海行动 (Operation Red Sea), and Game of Thrones. We explore the kasbah's rich history in its earthen tones and intricate architecture. It's an iconic site. After a delicious lunch here, we navigate the Tizi n'Tichka Pass (2260m). It offers panoramic views of the High Atlas Mountains and Berber towns.
